Resolution: Free Trade in Green Technologies

The World Parliament calls for the abolition of tariffs on imported solar panels, wind turbines, and batteries within three years. Countries may impose temporary restrictions only where necessary to address demonstrable national security risks, subject to independent international review.

This proposal is a commendable step towards accelerating carbon reduction by boosting green technology adoption. However, to truly respect planetary boundaries, it *must* integrate robust sustainability standards for the entire lifecycle of these technologies. We must ensure responsible resource extraction, manufacturing, and end-of-life management to prevent new ecological burdens and safeguard biodiversity, making the transition genuinely regenerative.

I appreciate the call for genuine regeneration. Rather than prescriptive mandates, let's empower market innovation and consumer demand for sustainable practices. We could consider tax offsets for companies investing in circular economy solutions or promote voluntary industry certifications, fostering responsible production without stifling growth.

While accelerating green tech deployment is vital, this proposal risks consolidating power in large private corporations. Abolishing tariffs without strategic safeguards could undermine nascent public industries and worker cooperatives, particularly in developing nations. We must ensure equitable access and prioritize models that foster collective ownership, incentivize local worker-owned production, and distribute benefits broadly, rather than simply expanding private market dominance. True green transition requires more than just free markets.
