The WPE should support a solution of the current conflict in Ukraine only if its is based on the principle of democratic self-determination.

    There should be an internationally organized and controlled referendum of the people living in the contested provinces, including displaced refugees that were registered in the provinces on 24.February 2022, voting whether their province should belong to Russia or Ukraine

    Democratic self determination will be difficult in times of war and also be a potential point of criticism by the Russians who claim that there is no legitimate Ukrainian government since the last election is overdue. So I would recommend rather to focus on Ukrainian self-determination as a nation state, knowing that this is not sufficient in terms of democracy but in my view the realistic option to get to VSCO goal. There might also be added that Ukrainian government has the obligation to organise democratic elections as soon as possible, which probably needs no say but nevertheless could be added.
