Garda Síochána (Powers) Bill 2026 (Bill 3 of 2026)
Bill entitled an Act to make provision in relation to the power of members of An Garda Síochána to stop and search persons and vehicles in specified circumstances; to make provision in relation to the search of premises; to make provision in relation to the treatment of persons in custody; to give further effect to Directive 2013/48/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 October 2013 on the right of access to a lawyer in criminal proceedings and in European arrest warrant proceedings, and on the right to have a third party informed upon deprivation of liberty and to communicate with third persons and with consular authorities when deprived of liberty; to amend the Criminal Law Act 1976, the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1997 and the Criminal Justice Act 2007; and to provide for related matters.oireachtas.ie/en/bills/bill/2026/3/
